27 Essential Marketing Tips

The following 27 essential marketing tips are culled from my marketing experience during the last 25 years. These are the tips that have helped me over and over again. They have helped me get back on track when I have strayed off course. All of these tips may not work for you, and that is OK. Perhaps you will find some tips you have not considered before that will help you connect with your internal clients as you market your programs and services to them.

  1. Marketing should be focused on improving your customer's condition
  2. Embrace the concept of “Free”
  3. Short copy doesn’t sell - your customers want the details
  4. Use lots of headlines
  5. Email alone will not do the trick
  6. Learn to talk the language of the business
  7. Start all over from scratch!
  8. Lock out the competition—provide answers to customer doubts
  9. Ask yourself—Do my marketing efforts answer the questions my customers need answered in order to make a decision?
  10. Each marketing effort should be able to accomplish more than one thing
  11. Keep it simple
  12. Keep it straight forward
  13. Help your customers, customers
  14. Be proactive
  15. Resist razzle dazzle
  16. Spell out expected results
  17. Build a relationship
  18. Regularly provide helpful new content to keep people coming back to you
  19. Contact information must be on everything you produce
  20. Understand the benefits
  21. Sell the benefits
  22. Get back to the basics
  23. Be bold. Break your mold
  24. Think in terms of, "How many different ways can I communicate this message?"
  25. You are never finished
  26. Don't worry if it doesn't work. Try something else
  27. Work with a rolling 18 month calendar
