Lateral Thinking Enhances Quality Improvement Programs: Tap into the power of a common language and practical process tools

We have been working on improving quality everywhere in our organizations. It is interesting that we haven’t approached the opportunity to improve the quality of our thinking with the same vigor. Yet, it is the quality of our thinking that drives the quality of our business results. We can only go so far with our improvement efforts before our competition catch up to us. Once everyone has improved their processes using the traditional analytical problem solving approach it becomes obvious that a different thinking approach is required. In fact, a design approach is required rather than a fault remover approach. Lateral thinking is an appropriate tool kit to use when you realize you need to design your way forward rather than fix your way forward.
