During a lively debrief discussion with a group learning to be more creative I used the term, "We're here to strengthen our Innovation Instinct." That's when it finally hit me--this is what I do. I help people strengthen their Innovation Instinct.
My term--"Innovation Instinct"--was born. It's helped my clients get clear about their needs--they need to develop better skills to generate, build, and implement valuable ideas. I incorporate de Bono Thinking Systems methods: Six Thinking Hats, Lateral Thinking, and Focus on Facilitation to help with this skill development.
One of the most important lessons I've learned over the years is the power of terminology to help clarify what's needed. I can hear groups saying, "Our Innovation Instinct on this project was just super," and everyone would instantly understand the meaning. Or, I can hear groups saying, "We really need to shore up our Innovation Instinct on this new project," and the group would understand they need to strengthen their skills. It creates a great shortcut to help people instantly understand what is expected. Once you know the terminology it makes communication so much easier and clearer.
So, let's get busy and work on strengthening your "Innovation Instinct." It's a 21st Century survival skill in the workforce no matter your job.
One of my most popular Power Sessions is "Strengthen Your Innovation Instinct with Six Thinking Hats." Let's book it!
Good thinking to you.
